Ringing in the New Year in the Bilingual Classroom

Happy New Year everyone!! Today will be all about the New Year and how you can celebrate with your students as soon as you get back from winter break.

The New Year is a perfect time to start fresh with our students. It brings a great teaching opportunity to talk about new beginnings, resolutions, and goal setting. Stay tuned there's a FREEBIE just for you!

Any cute holiday writing can be spruced up with party favors. As you are out buying decorations or party favors for your home, throw in a few extra packs of balloons, party hats, and streamers that can help you decorate a festive New Year's bulletin board. Your students can write on just a simple lined page and then throw on a festive squawker to add depth and cute-ness to a bulletin board. Check out this pack from Oriental Trading for ideas.

A resolution can be a hard concept to understand especially for students. If at home they are hearing about resolutions, but not seeing their families go through with them, they will not understand the importance of these. It is a good idea to discuss resolutions the first day back after winter break, and also explain that it is important to strive to keep these resolutions. An anchor chart can help students visualize and remember resolutions. Click on the picture if you'd like to use this in your classroom.

Have students discuss resolutions with a partner. Then they can set their own resolutions for the New Year. Keep referring to their resolutions so that students will remember and recall the importance. Feel free to use this banner to have students draw and write about their resolutions. Students can have this as a keepsake. (*Note: I did not include the year, so that you can use this resource year after year*)

How do you teach New Year's Resolutions to your students? I'd love to hear from you in the comments :)

Check out January themed products from my store! Perfect for those days after winter break.

Until next time!
